After leaving secondary school in 1966, I undertook an apprenticeship at South Coast Welders (now 'Nu-steel Structures') with a one day release to college.
Once I had completed my apprenticeship, I then furthered my knowledge by working for several other companies who involved themselves in a wide range of aspects relating to welding and steel fabrication including Peak Welders, Burgess Welding, Matchams Engineering, Houchin & British Rail.
Feeling there was a business opportunity and after experiencing most aspects of the companies I had previously worked for, I started trading in September 1978 under my own name, the majority of work being on-site only.
In 1986, I decided to adopt the title 'Ash-weld' and since then, I have never looked back as the business continued to prosper mainly due to the site work which, by then, Ash-weld had become well known for.
'Ash-weld' soon became just 'Ashweld' and our client base continued to grow, gaining major contracts including work during the construction of the Channel Tunnel and the M20 motorway.
Over more recent years, we have gained more and more complex contracts which led us to adopt the more descriptive title of 'Ashweld Fabrications', now serving some of the country's leading building contactors as well as catering for the needs of smaller, private customers for whom we produce quality custom built steelwork to their specifications.
